It is always sad to learn that a world champion, a mother, an appreciated friend and role model, all at the same time, died at the age of 53.
Earlier this week, she dived around the eastern coast of Spain, for a receational dive. She had her usual wetsuit and some weight around her neck to dive deeper…but she never came back.
After two days of intense search efforts, her son Alexey Molchanov said Tuesday afternoon that his mother, was not expected to be found alive.
Natalia Molchanova was the first woman to break the 100 m freedive barrier and she could stay in the water up to 9 minutes!
It’s really sad but maybe she was one of those people who would have liked to know she would die while practicing her absolute passion.
